Architecture
The LA River exemplifies the precarious relation between nature and man. After a series of disastrous floods, the river was channelized in the 1930s by The Unites States Army Corps of Engineers. The once free-flowing river now exists as a fully concrete gray channel.
While the human-intervention eliminated The LA River’s natural beauty, the concrete stretch went on to play an unexpected role culturally. It was included in many iconic Hollywood features and became a popular hangout for the youth of the city.
There is now a large voice for the restoration of The LA River to a version of its original self. This would include the creation of parks, wildlife habitats and the mass removal of concrete.
Design
Width: 4 mm
We were inspired by this moment in history for The LA River. It is currently in an extended state of “in-between”, which we wanted to capture.
Our Los Angeles design replicates the shape of the base of the channelized river.
Made in USA.
