This design is an ode to the Indigenous roots of Toronto. The name Toronto is derived from the Iroquois word tkaronto, meaning "place where trees stand in the water". With this image in mind, an icon is created from the two letters used to abbreviate Toronto (TO) and arranged to elicit this idea of a tree rising out from a pool of water. It is combined with the contemporary design of Toronto's city hall that form the rays of the native symbol for the sun. This signifies warmth, growth, and all that is well.
